This calculator gives a fast tonnage estimate based on square footage, climate zone, and a small set of efficiency adjustments. It is not a replacement for a Manual J load calculation — use it for early conversations and ballpark sizing, then run a proper load calc before quoting equipment.
How HVAC sizing actually works
Manual J accounts for orientation, window U-values, infiltration, internal gains, ductwork heat loss, and dozens of other variables. Oversized equipment short-cycles, fails to dehumidify, and wears out compressors faster. Undersized equipment runs flat-out and never catches up on the hottest day.

Use this calculator to scope a job and decide whether to send a comfort advisor. Run a Manual J when the customer is replacing equipment, adding rooms, or buying premium high-efficiency equipment that needs to be matched correctly to the load.
